About
The National WWII Museum occupies several connected pavilions in New Orleans's Warehouse District, on Andrew Higgins Boulevard between Magazine and Camp Streets. Exhibits cover the American experience of World War II across the Pacific, European and home-front campaigns, with restored aircraft, tanks and landing craft alongside recorded oral histories from veterans and wartime workers. The Road to Berlin and Road to Tokyo galleries walk visitors through the ground campaigns in order, and the Arsenal of Democracy gallery covers wartime manufacturing on the home front.
A visit moves through the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, the Liberation Pavilion, the US Freedom Pavilion (The Boeing Center), and the Kushner Restoration Pavilion, where technicians work on aircraft restoration behind glass. The Solomon Victory Theater screens the 4D film Beyond All Boundaries, and a second theater runs a submarine-themed program; each of these add-on experiences costs $9, or $12 for both together. On campus, the American Sector Restaurant & Bar and Café Normandie serve sit-down meals, and the Jeri Nims Soda Shop, Kilroy's Bar & Lounge, Rosie's on the Roof and Provisions offer lighter food and drinks between galleries. Traveling exhibits and evening programs are added through the year.
The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Mardi Gras Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. General admission runs from $27 for students and military with ID to $37 for adults, with a $34 rate for seniors 65 and older. Children under 5 and WWII veterans get in free. The museum's own guidance covers visits as short as two hours or as long as two full days, with suggested plans for a half day and a full day in between.
The campus sits about a mile from the French Quarter and is walkable from the restaurants and galleries along Magazine Street. The museum runs its own parking garage at 1024 Magazine Street, and the on-site Higgins Hotel offers rooms for visitors who want to stay within a few minutes of the entrance.
Accessibility
The National WWII Museum is wheelchair accessible: its own accessibility page describes a ramped main entrance, elevators in every pavilion, and accessible restrooms throughout the campus.
Parking is in the museum's garage at 1024 Magazine Street, which has designated handicapped spaces. The main entrance is a short distance away at 525 Andrew Higgins Boulevard and has an accessible ramp, so wheelchair and scooter users do not need to use stairs to get inside.
Elevators connect every level of the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, Liberation Pavilion, US Freedom Pavilion, Kushner Restoration Pavilion and Solomon Victory Theater. Bench seating in the galleries is limited, so visitors who tire easily should plan rest stops between buildings.
Every public restroom has a wheelchair-accessible stall, and a larger restroom with an adult changing table is in the Kushner Restoration Pavilion, which also has a private nursing room.
Complimentary manual wheelchairs are loaned first come, first served at the entrance; the museum does not rent motorized scooters but allows visitors to bring their own. Staff wearing an "I'm learning ASL" ribbon can communicate in basic sign language, exhibit videos carry open captions in English, and Beyond All Boundaries has a monitored captioned showing. On the last Saturday of most months, Sensory Friendly Mornings offer a quiet 8 to 9 a.m. entry before the public opening, reduced sound levels across the campus into midday, a private Quiet Room by request, and loaner KultureCity sensory bags with noise-cancelling headphones and fidgets. Service animals are welcome; the museum does not publish anything on tactile paving, braille signage or door widths, so call (504) 528-1944 or email [email protected] ahead of a visit if those details matter to your trip.
