About

The New Orleans Museum of Art is the city's main fine art museum, sitting inside City Park with a permanent collection and rotating exhibitions across two floors. The museum connects directly to Cafe NOMA and a small museum shop, and it runs education programs for school groups and adults throughout the year.

Most visitors spend two to three hours moving through the galleries, then walk next door to the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, an 11.5-acre outdoor space with more than 90 sculptures set among live oaks and magnolias. The garden has a paved path that loops around the whole site and its own restrooms. Admission to the garden is free and separate from the museum ticket, and the garden stays open seven days a week, including the Monday when the museum galleries are closed.

As of 2026, general museum admission runs $18 for Louisiana residents and $23 for out-of-state visitors, with seniors 65 and older paying $13 or $18. Anyone under 19 gets in free, and NOMA members do not pay at all. The museum is open every day except Monday, generally 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Wednesday hours of noon to 7 p.m. Parking inside City Park on Lelong Drive is free, and there is additional accessible parking closer to the building on both sides near the wheelchair ramps.

City Park surrounds the museum, so many visitors pair a stop at NOMA with a walk through the rest of the park before or after the museum. Downtown New Orleans and the French Quarter are roughly ten minutes away by car, which makes NOMA an easy add-on to a longer day in the city rather than a trip on its own.

Accessibility

The New Orleans Museum of Art is wheelchair accessible. NOMA's official accessibility page states that the museum, the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, and Cafe NOMA are all fully wheelchair and stroller accessible.

Accessible parking is provided on both sides of the museum, next to the wheelchair ramps, and general parking on Lelong Drive inside City Park is free. Wheelchair users enter by a ramp on the side of the building near the cafe, rather than the main front steps. A buzzer next to the ramp door alerts security staff, who let visitors in and direct them to the front desk in the Great Hall.

Inside, an elevator reaches the museum's other floors, according to a visitor accessibility guide; this detail is not stated on NOMA's own accessibility page, so confirm current elevator access by phone before a visit that depends on it. Accessible restrooms are on the first floor near the NOMA Museum Shop. Outside, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden has a paved path that loops around its full 11.5 acres, so a wheelchair or stroller can cover the whole garden without leaving pavement.

A limited number of complimentary wheelchairs can be borrowed at the front desk; you leave a photo ID for the duration of the visit. NOMA's website does not publish information on Braille signage, audio description, assistive listening devices, sign language interpretation, or sensory-friendly hours, so visitors who need those services should call ahead.

If you need help planning your route, arranging a wheelchair, or coordinating a drop-off at the ramp entrance, call the museum at (504) 658-4100, or the accessibility line at (504) 658-4105, before you arrive.
