About

Stone Mountain Park sits about 16 miles east of downtown Atlanta and centers on the world's largest exposed granite monolith, rising 825 feet above the surrounding piedmont. The mountain's north face features the largest high-relief sculpture in the world - a carving of Confederate figures that stretches across nearly three acres of rock.

But the park is far more than its famous carving. Spread across 3,200 acres, it offers a full day (or weekend) of activities for every age and interest. The Summit Skyride cable car whisks visitors to the mountaintop in minutes, where panoramic views stretch as far as the Appalachian foothills on clear days. Back at ground level, the Scenic Railroad chugs through the woods on a five-mile loop around the mountain's base.

Families love the Geyser Towers ropes course, the Dinotorium interactive play area, and SkyHike - one of the largest adventure courses in the country. Seasonal events include the famous Lasershow Spectacular projected onto the mountain face during summer evenings, the Yellow Daisy Festival each September, and Snow Mountain during winter months.

The park also features a championship golf course, fishing lakes, camping facilities, and miles of hiking and walking trails. The walk-up trail to the summit is a popular 1.3-mile climb that rewards hikers with sweeping views. For those who prefer a quieter experience, the nature trails through the surrounding forests offer peaceful walking year-round.

Whether you're catching the laser show on a warm summer night, riding the train with kids, or hiking to the summit at sunrise, Stone Mountain delivers a uniquely Georgian outdoor experience that blends natural beauty with family entertainment.

Accessibility

Stone Mountain Park has made significant efforts to ensure accessibility across its major attractions. The Summit Skyride cable car is accessible, with entrances designed to accommodate wheelchairs at both the lower and upper terminals. Service animals are welcome aboard. The Scenic Railroad offers a wheelchair lift and designated wheelchair parking inside the train cars, with a two-point tie-down system accommodating up to two wheelchairs per trip.

The Dinotorium's first level is wheelchair accessible, and the second level can be reached via elevator. An ADA-compliant restroom is available. The park provides accessible restrooms at both upper and lower terminal areas.

Parking includes designated accessible spaces near major attractions. Paved pathways connect many of the main areas, though some nature trails and the walk-up trail to the summit involve steep terrain and are not wheelchair accessible.

Georgia State Parks has partnered with organizations to provide free all-terrain wheelchairs at select parks. Visitors with red-green color vision deficiencies can borrow Enchroma colorblind-adapting glasses at some locations. Contact the park directly at (770) 498-5690 for current accessibility details and to confirm specific accommodation availability for your visit.
