About

Cuyahoga Valley National Park follows the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, combining towpath history, wetlands, waterfalls, forests, scenic railroad access, cycling, paddling, hiking, and driving routes. NPS describes the park as a long green corridor with flat valley-bottom routes and steeper ravines climbing the valley walls. That geography matters for accessibility: many popular lowland experiences are accessible, while ravine trails are among the least accessible options.

For mobility access, NPS says all visitor centers are accessible and identifies several popular attractions as fully accessible. These include the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, Beaver Marsh near Ira Trailhead, Canal Exploration Center, Everett Covered Bridge, the upper boardwalk at Brandywine Falls, and the heronry along Bath Road. The Towpath Trail is described as bike and wheelchair friendly, and the park publishes short towpath walk suggestions.

Additional mobility supports include loaner wheelchairs at Boston Mill Visitor Center and Canal Exploration Center, hiking poles available first come, first served at Boston Mill Visitor Center, detailed restroom and drinking-water information with photo galleries, an accessible fishing pier at Horseshoe Pond, and picnic shelters at Octagon, Ledges, and Kendall Lake. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has a car with a wheelchair lift and accessible restroom; visitors are told to select the ADA Coach Car when purchasing tickets.

Communication and sensory supports are also substantial. Boston Mill Visitor Center has an UbiDuo and assistive listening devices on request. Canal Exploration Center has open-captioned exhibits and assistive listening devices. Programs can use assistive listening devices, and sign-language interpreters may be requested with two weeks' notice. For blind or low-vision visitors, NPS provides braille and audio versions of the park map and guide, tactile floor plans at visitor centers, audio-described exhibits, tactile exhibit elements, and large-print Valley Guide options by request.
