About
The Atlanta Botanical Garden sits on 30 acres in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, right next to Piedmont Park. Since 1976, it's grown from a modest community garden into one of the Southeast's premier horticultural attractions, drawing visitors year-round with rotating exhibitions, seasonal displays, and permanent collections that showcase plants from around the world.
The Garden's centerpiece is the Fuqua Orchid Center, home to one of the largest collections of orchids in the country. You'll find thousands of species displayed across climate-controlled environments that recreate tropical and cloud forest habitats. The Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory houses rare and endangered tropical plants, complete with a misty atmosphere and winding pathways.
One of the most popular features is the Canopy Walk, an elevated walkway that takes you through the treetops of the Storza Woods hardwood forest. At 600 feet long, it's one of the few such experiences in the United States and offers a perspective on Atlanta's tree canopy that most people never get to see.
Seasonal events bring the Garden to life throughout the year. Garden Lights, Holiday Nights transforms the grounds into a dazzling winter wonderland with millions of lights. Spring brings the Atlanta Blooms exhibit featuring tens of thousands of tulips. Summer concerts, cocktail events, and rotating art installations keep things fresh for repeat visitors.
The Edible Garden showcases sustainable food production and offers cooking demonstrations. Children will love the interactive Children's Garden, which features water play areas, a sunflower fountain, and hands-on planting activities.
Practical tips: the Garden is open year-round except on major holidays. Timed-entry tickets are recommended, especially during popular seasonal events. There's a cafe on-site for lunch and snacks. Plan for at least two to three hours to see everything comfortably. Mornings tend to be less crowded, and weekday visits offer the most relaxed experience. Parking is available in a dedicated garage adjacent to the Garden entrance.
Accessibility
Nearly all areas of the Atlanta Botanical Garden are accessible to guests using wheelchairs and scooters. The Garden provides complimentary wheelchairs on a first-come, first-served basis at the entrance. Much of the terrain is relatively flat, though there is a lower garden path area with a noticeable hill on the return route, so visitors should plan accordingly.
Paved pathways connect the major garden areas, conservatories, and exhibition spaces. The indoor facilities, including the Fuqua Orchid Center and the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory, are accessible. Restrooms are available throughout the grounds.
Parking is available in a multi-level garage adjacent to the Garden entrance, with designated accessible spaces. The distance from the parking garage to the entrance is short and on level ground.
The Garden hosts sensory-rich experiences through its plant collections, water features, and fragrant gardens that can be enjoyed by visitors with varying abilities. Specific details about sensory accommodations, assistive listening devices, or specialized programming for visitors with disabilities are not widely published online. Contact the Garden directly at (404) 876-5859 for current information about additional accessibility features, service animal policies, mobility device restrictions on specific paths like the Canopy Walk, and any temporary accessibility changes due to construction or seasonal installations.
Group visits and visitors with specific accessibility needs are encouraged to call ahead so staff can help plan the best route through the Garden.
