About
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama is one of the most exciting destinations in the country for anyone fascinated by space exploration. Home to one of the world's largest collections of rockets and space memorabilia, the center brings the story of America's space program to life through immersive exhibits, authentic artifacts, and interactive experiences.
Visitors can walk beneath a full-scale Saturn V rocket, one of only three on display anywhere. The museum's exhibits trace the history of rocketry from early experiments through the Apollo moon landings, the Space Shuttle program, and today's missions aboard the International Space Station. You'll find actual spacecraft, spacesuits worn by astronauts, moon rocks, and engineering models that were part of real missions.
The hands-on experiences set this museum apart. Space simulators let you feel what it's like to train as an astronaut, and rotating exhibits keep the content fresh for repeat visitors. Kids and adults alike love the interactive science demonstrations and the chance to sit inside spacecraft replicas.
Outside, Rocket Park features an impressive collection of rockets and military hardware displayed across a spacious campus. The Shuttle Park showcases a full-scale Space Shuttle pathfinder, and the outdoor areas offer plenty of room to explore at your own pace.
The center is also home to Space Camp, the famous program that has inspired generations of young people to pursue careers in science and engineering. While Space Camp itself is a multi-day residential program, day visitors benefit from the same world-class facilities and educational approach.
Plan to spend at least half a day here. The museum is located just off Interstate 565, making it easy to reach. There's a gift shop with space-themed souvenirs and a cafe for lunch. Huntsville itself has grown into a vibrant city with excellent restaurants and hotels nearby, so the Space & Rocket Center fits well into a longer Alabama trip.
Accessibility
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is wheelchair accessible throughout its indoor and outdoor areas. The museum features paved, wheelchair-friendly outdoor pathways connecting Rocket Park, Shuttle Park, and the main exhibit halls. Inside, elevators and stair lifts provide access to all levels of the museum, including the Saturn V Hall and ISS exhibits. Accessible restrooms are available throughout the facility.
Wheelchairs are available for free checkout at the Guest Services and Information Desk near the main entrance. Simply leave a driver's license or photo ID and you can borrow a wheelchair or stroller for the duration of your visit.
The main museum entrance and ticket desk are located at ground level. Paved walkways connect the indoor exhibits to the outdoor rocket displays, so wheelchair users and those with mobility aids can move between areas without difficulty.
Parking is available on-site. The Guest Services desk at the ticket counter can assist with any questions or special needs during your visit.
For details about sensory accommodations, service animal policies, or specific accessibility features for simulators and interactive exhibits, contact the U.S. Space & Rocket Center directly before your visit. Some simulator rides may have physical requirements that limit participation, so it's worth asking about alternatives when you arrive.
