About
The Tillamook Creamery Visitor Center sits along the northern Oregon Coast, drawing over a million visitors each year to one of the region's most beloved free attractions. This isn't just a factory tour - it's a full sensory experience celebrating over a century of cooperative dairy farming.
The self-guided tour takes you along an elevated viewing corridor where you can watch cheesemakers craft Tillamook's famous cheddar, pepper jack, and other varieties in real time. Interpretive displays tell the story of the farmer-owned cooperative, from its founding in 1909 to modern production methods. Kids and adults alike enjoy the interactive exhibits scattered throughout the building.
Downstairs, the expansive tasting counter lets you sample a rotating selection of cheeses. It's a highlight for most visitors, and the staff are happy to walk you through flavor profiles and pairings. The on-site Creamery Cafe serves grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese, and other comfort food made with Tillamook products. There's also an ice cream counter with dozens of flavors - the lines can get long during summer weekends, but they move quickly.
The gift shop stocks the full Tillamook product line along with Oregon-made goods and souvenirs. You'll find cheeses here that aren't available in most grocery stores, making it a great spot to pick up gifts.
Practical details: The Creamery is open daily, and admission is free. It's located just north of the town of Tillamook along Highway 101, about 75 miles west of Portland. Plan for at least an hour, though many visitors stay longer once they discover the cafe and shop. Summer is peak season, so arriving early in the day or visiting on weekdays helps you avoid crowds. The parking lot is large and well-maintained. Nearby attractions include Cape Meares, the Tillamook Air Museum, and the beautiful beaches of Oceanside and Pacific City, making the Creamery an easy addition to any Oregon Coast road trip.
