About

Shoshone Falls plunges 212 feet into the Snake River Canyon near Twin Falls, Idaho, earning its nickname as the "Niagara of the West." It's actually 45 feet higher than its famous eastern counterpart, and the dramatic high-desert setting makes it feel like discovering a hidden wonder.

The falls are at their most spectacular in spring, typically peaking between April and July when snowmelt from the surrounding mountains feeds the Snake River. During peak flow, the water crashes over a 900-foot-wide rim of ancient basalt rock with tremendous force. Even during lower-flow periods, the sheer scale of the canyon and the rugged beauty of the site make the trip worthwhile.

Shoshone Falls Park sits on the canyon's edge and offers multiple vantage points for taking in the scenery. The upper viewing area provides sweeping panoramas of both the falls and the deep canyon below. A small gift shop on-site sells snacks and souvenirs, and picnic areas with tables let you settle in for a longer visit. Many visitors find themselves staying far longer than planned, captivated by the roar of the water and the play of light across the mist.

The park is located just a short drive east of downtown Twin Falls. There's a small vehicle entrance fee that varies by season. The surrounding area offers additional outdoor attractions, including Centennial Waterfront Park and the Perrine Bridge, which spans the canyon at a dizzying 486 feet above the river.

Whether you're road-tripping across southern Idaho or making a special trip, Shoshone Falls delivers a genuinely awe-inspiring experience. The combination of raw natural power, dramatic geology, and accessible infrastructure means almost everyone can enjoy one of the West's most underrated natural wonders. Pack a picnic, bring your camera, and give yourself plenty of time to soak it all in.

Accessibility

Shoshone Falls Park is ADA accessible and welcoming to visitors with mobility needs. Designated accessible parking is available a short distance from the main viewing areas. Smooth, paved sidewalks connect the parking area to the upper viewing platforms, where visitors can enjoy full views of the falls and canyon without encountering stairs.

The upper viewing area is fully accessible and provides excellent vantage points. Wheelchair users have reported comfortably spending extended time here with unobstructed sightlines. The lower viewing platform, however, requires stairs and is not currently wheelchair accessible.

The gift shop area near the main viewpoint is accessible. Visitors using powered or manual wheelchairs have reported positive experiences getting around the upper portions of the park.

A few practical notes: the path from parking to the viewpoints is relatively short and manageable. Spring visits during peak water flow offer the most dramatic views, but the park can be busier during this season. Arriving earlier in the day may help with securing closer parking spots.

For the most current details on restroom accessibility, seasonal facility hours, and any temporary closures or construction, contact Shoshone Falls Park or the Twin Falls Parks and Recreation Department before your visit. Conditions and available amenities can change seasonally.
