About
LEGOLAND California Resort in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego, is a theme park designed specifically for families with young children ages 2 through 12. The park brings the colorful, creative world of LEGO to life through rides, shows, interactive building experiences, and the spectacular Miniland USA - a detailed LEGO recreation of iconic American cities and landmarks.
The park is organized into themed zones including Fun Town, Castle Hill, Knights' Kingdom, and the newer LEGO Galaxy land. SEA LIFE Aquarium and a Water Park are also part of the resort, offering even more options for a multi-day stay. On-site LEGOLAND Hotel and Castle Hotel provide themed accommodations that are part of the overall resort experience.
For families, the park's scale and focus on younger children makes it generally less overwhelming than larger theme parks. Rides are designed for lower thrill levels with an emphasis on interactive and imaginative experiences. The DUPLO Valley area caters to the youngest visitors with gentle, toddler-friendly rides.
Food options are spread throughout the park, and the park's First Aid station can store refrigerated medications for guests who need it - a practical touch for families managing medical needs. The resort is open year-round, with peak crowds during summer and school holidays. Online ticket purchase is recommended, as walk-up pricing is higher.
LEGOLAND California has earned certification as a Certified Autism Center from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Every staff member has received autism sensitivity training, and detailed Sensory Guides are available for every attraction, helping families plan the most comfortable experience. A dedicated Sensory Room in the DUPLO Family Care Center in Fun Town offers a calm retreat from the park's activity.
Accessibility
LEGOLAND California goes well beyond basic ADA compliance, with programs designed for both physical and cognitive disabilities.
Mobility access: All shows and the majority of rides and attractions are ADA accessible. Paths, restrooms, and ride queues are wheelchair accessible throughout the park. Wheelchair and ECV (electric convenience vehicle) rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Minifigure Market in The Beginning area. Note: Wheelchairs are not permitted on ride vehicles per manufacturer safety guidelines - guests must be able to transfer with assistance from their party. Staff can assist with access to special ride compartments but cannot lift guests.
Assisted Access Pass: Available at Guest Services (located in The Beginning), this pass significantly reduces wait times for guests with physical or cognitive disabilities who have difficulty tolerating extended queuing. The pass accommodates up to 6 people total. Rather than waiting in the standard queue, guests are given scheduled ride times. This pass is particularly helpful for guests with autism spectrum disorders or sensory sensitivities. Note: The pass applies only to the theme park, not SEA LIFE Aquarium or the Water Park.
Autism and sensory support: The entire resort (theme park, Water Park, hotels) is a Certified Autism Center. Detailed Sensory Guides rating each attraction across the five senses are available at Guest Services and in the LEGOLAND app. A Sensory Room inside the DUPLO Family Care Center provides a calm retreat space.
Other services: Refrigerated medication storage available at First Aid. Service animals welcome throughout the park (not permitted on ride vehicles). Discounted caregiver tickets available.
