About

Kualoa Ranch and Private Nature Reserve spans 4,000 acres along Oahu's dramatic windward coast in Kaneohe, about 24 miles from Waikiki. Established in 1850, this working cattle ranch doubled as a filming location for Jurassic Park, Lost, and dozens of other Hollywood productions, earning it the nickname "Jurassic Valley." But the real star here is the land itself: towering emerald mountains, ancient fishponds, dense tropical forests, and sweeping ocean views that feel almost impossibly beautiful.

Visitors can choose from a variety of guided tours and experiences. The Hollywood Movie Sites Tour takes you through famous filming locations aboard open-air vehicles. There's also an Ocean Voyage that glides along the coastline, a Jungle Expedition through the valley's lush interior, and horseback rides for those who want a more traditional ranch experience. Cultural tours explore Hawaiian history and the sacred significance of the valley, which was once reserved for Hawaiian royalty.

The ranch is home to more than 600 head of cattle, 120 horses, 200 pigs, and 100 sheep, so there's a working agricultural operation alongside the tourism. A visitor center near the entrance offers a gift shop, snack bar, and gathering area where tours depart.

Kualoa is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed only on New Year's Day and Christmas. Booking tours in advance is strongly recommended, especially during peak season. The ranch sits in one of Oahu's wetter areas, so a light rain jacket is a good idea. Comfortable shoes are a must regardless of which tour you pick.

Whether you're a film buff, a nature lover, or someone who simply wants to see one of Hawaii's most breathtaking valleys up close, Kualoa Ranch delivers an experience that's hard to match anywhere else on the island. It's the kind of place where you'll catch yourself just staring at the mountains.

Accessibility

Kualoa Ranch has made efforts to accommodate visitors with mobility needs. The parking area in front of the main entrance includes multiple accessible parking bays. A ramp is located to the left of the large staircase at the entrance, providing step-free access to the visitor center and tour departure area.

Many of the ranch's tours and facilities are wheelchair accessible, and staff members are trained to assist visitors with special needs. The Movie Sites Tour, conducted in open-air vehicles, may be accessible depending on the specific vehicle and individual needs. Some tours that involve rugged terrain, horseback riding, or watercraft may present challenges for wheelchair users or visitors with limited mobility.

Because the ranch covers 4,000 acres of varied terrain including valleys, forests, and coastal areas, accessibility can differ significantly from one activity to another. Paved surfaces are available around the main visitor center, but many tour routes cross unpaved ground.

Visitors with specific accessibility requirements should contact Kualoa Ranch directly before booking to discuss which tours and experiences will work best for their needs. The staff has a reputation for being helpful and willing to make accommodations where possible. Contact the venue for current details on accessible restrooms, sensory accommodations, and any recent facility upgrades that may affect access.
