About
Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area stretches across more than 12,000 acres of Ozark highland terrain along the southern shore of Beaver Lake in northwest Arkansas. It's the state's largest state park, and it was designed from the start with a conservation-first approach, meaning minimal human impact on the ecosystem while still welcoming visitors to explore its beauty.
The park's modern visitor center serves as an excellent starting point. Inside, you'll find interactive exhibits about the region's geology, wildlife, and history. Staff can help you plan your visit and point you toward trails and activities that match your interests and abilities.
What sets Hobbs apart is the sheer variety of ways to experience it. The trail system covers 54 miles, ranging from short paved paths to rugged multi-use routes for mountain biking and horseback riding. The Historic Van Winkle Trail offers a half-mile walk exploring the conservation area's history along the lake shore. For longer adventures, the Hidden Diversity Multi-use Trail extends 23 miles through diverse forest habitats.
Beaver Lake itself is a major draw. The 28,000-acre reservoir offers fishing, boating, and swimming, with several access points near the park. The clear Ozark waters and wooded shoreline make it one of the most scenic lakes in the region.
The park operates as a day-use facility, so there's no overnight camping within its boundaries. However, nearby options abound in the greater Beaver Lake area and the towns of Rogers and Eureka Springs, both within easy driving distance. Eureka Springs in particular makes a great companion destination, with its Victorian downtown, arts scene, and restaurants.
Visit in spring for wildflowers and mild temperatures, or come in fall when the Ozark hardwoods put on a brilliant color show. Winter brings quieter trails and crisp air perfect for hiking. Summer is ideal for combining a park visit with time on Beaver Lake.
There's no entrance fee for Hobbs State Park, making it an easy addition to any northwest Arkansas trip.
Accessibility
Hobbs State Park features the Ozark Plateau Trail, a paved ADA-accessible trail located next to the visitor center. This trail provides a smooth, firm surface suitable for wheelchair users and those with mobility aids, offering a genuine Ozark woods experience without rough terrain.
The Historic Van Winkle Trail is a half-mile wheelchair-accessible path that explores the conservation area along the south shore of Beaver Lake. According to Accessible Nature, this trail allows visitors using wheelchairs to experience the lakeside environment.
The park's visitor center is a modern facility that should provide accessible entry, though visitors are encouraged to call ahead to confirm specific features like automatic doors and elevator access. Interactive exhibits inside cover the area's natural and cultural history.
Accessible parking is available at the visitor center and trailhead areas. The park's relatively new construction (dedicated in 2001) means facilities were built with current accessibility standards in mind.
For restroom access, the visitor center has facilities on site. Contact the park directly at (479) 789-5000 to confirm current restroom accessibility details at trailheads and other areas throughout the park.
Beaver Lake water access points vary in accessibility. Some boat ramps and fishing areas managed by the Army Corps of Engineers may offer accessible features, but conditions can change seasonally. Check with both the park and the Corps of Engineers' Beaver Lake office for current waterfront accessibility.
Service animals are welcome throughout the park. Contact Hobbs State Park staff before your visit for the most up-to-date information on accessible routes, seasonal trail conditions, and any temporary closures that might affect your plans.
